The calendar

Storm season on the Gulf Coast

Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30.

  • Before the season

    Before June 1

A ground walk, a roof walk and the attic: lifted or missing shingles, sealant, flashing, vents. Spring is easier to book than August.

  • The season

    June to November

Small things get fixed between storms: a lifted ridge cap, a loose vent, a cracked pipe boot.

  • Peak

    Around September 10

The season's statistical peak. Crews are busy, and tarps go on before repairs.

  • After the season

    December

The season is over. We walk the roof again for what winter will find.

Order of things

When wind has passed

  1. 01

Step 1: Stay off the roof

Wet roofs are slick and loose shingles slide. Look from the ground.

  2. 02

Step 2: Look from the ground

Shingles in the yard, a sag at the ridge, flashing hanging, a bare spot. Photograph the roof for your own records.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Keep water out

If rain is coming and the roof is open, a tarp is the fix. Don't climb up to nail one down in wind.

  4. 04

Step 4: Ask for a roof inspection

We walk the roof and the attic and write down what we find.

  5. 05

    Step 5: Take your time

A repair can wait a few days. A signature on the day isn't required.

Plainly

Where we stand

  • We repair roofs

We don't act as public adjusters or negotiate with anyone's insurer.

  • The deductible is yours

No roofer can cover or waive it, and we won't offer to.

  • No gifts for a signature

No gift cards, coupons or discounts tied to an inspection.

Storm questions

Should I tarp the roof myself?

Only from the ground or a ladder you can reach safely, and never in wind. A roof with an open spot needs a pro on it, tied off.

How do I know a roofer at my door is local?

Ask for the Florida license number and look it up on the state's DBPR site. Ask for a local address and for the contract in writing, and take your time before signing.

Do you have crews waiting after a storm?

No. We are a family firm, and our schedule fills quickly after any storm. We answer in the order people call.

Have the roof looked at before the season

An inspection takes a morning and gives you photos.
